Hello all.  I know the answer to my question is probably going to be extremely basic, but I can honestly say I have not come across this lock before.  I was called to a house yesterday where the owner had just died and the locks needed changing.  Of the 2 garage doors one was a yale, but the other baffled me.  It looked like and a normal wafer lock that would be found on garage doors ie circular in profile and about 1/2" in diameter.  However, the cylinder just rotated 360 degrees continuously and appeared to have a curtain.  At one point of rotation, I could feel what I took to be wafers, but they appeared to be very heavily sprung loaded.  The lock did not have an identifying name, but had numbers stamped around it.  I was able to change the door mortice and the yale cylinder, but have to say this other lock left me defeated.  Any ideas as how to pick would be grately appreciated. regards Phil (the other one)

if poss can you show a pic...most common garage door locks / handles are "henderson"  that is if we are on the same type of garage door..eg a "up and over type"...

i know the kind of locks you are on about they are also furniture locks aswell. not had chance to play with onbe yet but they use flat steel keys. and the plug or core just spins untill the key goes in a certain depth however i do think it is a wafer of some kindit is like this but in built with the handle which has a slot for a padlock

Yep, I am familiar with Henderson and Cardale etc.  Sadly don't have a photo.  Handle was to the right side of the lock.  It was a slim metal handle runing in a vertical position and pivoted about half way down the handle.  It have a hole at the top of the handle so that a padlock could be fitted to stop handle from moving.  Does that help any?

Its a ZA garage door lock. Not sure about picking but you can buy a Master key which opens all of them.

Yes Stu, that is exactly it.  It did appear to have very heavy levers.  Do you know of a method to pick, other than with a master key as Kent Locks says?

Thanks Kent Locks. I have just bought a ZA lock and will start playing with it when it arrives.  I didn't realise Garador used them.  I have only come across standard wafer locks on them before.  I guess this is what makes things interesting. Thanks regards Phil

You can also pick them with standard wires, a tension tool and pick made to suit the size of the lock. Then just pick like any standard lever lock.
