Hi,

Our Lockmaster PVC Door, will not lock, i think it is the locking levers that are stuck.

They will not move when the handle is pushed up, it just sticks.

Can anyone shed any advice on how to remedy this please?

Hi Lisa. Is this when the door is in the closed position, or when the door is ajar?

Both - it used to push up and 3 levers came out. But when it is open or closed when you push up, the middle one starts to come out, but the other two do not move. It is not the 4 round things that go up and down, but the 3 levers that come out of the door.

Sounds like something may have worked loose?

You won't know until the whole locking mechanism is removed and checked ensuring all the screws are tight holding the main lock casing, and the shoot bolt casings.

Worse scenario is that something has broken within the main lock case, as many of these can't be serviced, nor can you split the lock case to take a look?. Spare parts for these are also a no go. Before you go to any expense a few things you can check yourself.

If the rollers are moving as they should do, then I would suspect some loose, or missing screws in the bolt cases. Ignore the middle one as this is the main dead bolt. The one at the top and bottom are in their own case.

1) Make sure all the small cross head screws that run down the faceplate of the lock are tight.

2) Lubricate the top and bottom bolts. it only takes a bit of grime in the wrong place to make these stick.

3) The cylinders are designed to only work from one side, with one key at a time. After they wear a little it is possible to sometimes operate them from both sides with a key on each side and this can cause the 'cam' to slip. If it's in the wrong position it may affect the operation of the locking mech?

4) Last resort, call a locksmith who can deal with these locks. Not all can, so you don't want someone who splits the locks case, then everything 'explodes' in front of them. Give them a free sub to your mag and you probably won't pay a penny, unless the mech need replacing :)

Hope this helps.

Sounds like it could only be one and not both, if the door was shut - sounds like a jammed mech. / could be wrong though.

I'm sure that one of the members on here will live somewhere near, or know someone who does.

If it's a slipping cam then the mechanism would remain in the locked position and all the hooks/ rollers wouldn't move when attempting to operate the handle with the door open or closed. Sounds like a mechanism problem to me. As Jay said, first remove the locking mechanism strip and check for loose linkage screws/bolts between the hooks /rollers and gearbox before ordering a complete new strip..

Would you have a rough idea what it would cost to repair this, assuming something with the mechanism needs fixing/replacing.

I wouldn't order a new lock mechanism untill you have checked that it isn't just a loose linkage causing the problem!

Gut feeling it is the gearbox . I live near Halifax  so if you pay my diesel I  will come over and tell you what's wrong and what you have to do to replace gearbox or complete new mechanism ( I never replace only gearbox although it's cheaper option, it's not in the long run) Send me a pm if you cant find anyone closer.Already a subscriber so not trying to get free mags
