The basic one that i bought from Jay's tool shop about a year ago has always done what its meant to do, i know you can get the version that tightens up on the cylinder but personally i have never needed that extra feature and my basic version has paid for itself many times over.

My 'standard' Souber has worked well everytime I've needed it..... until Friday when I had to deal with a dud Euro, and it wouldn't grip the 2 - 3mm overhang. Got the Customer in using another method, but could have done with the Matrix one that tightens up. The 'TL' one is apparently 'grim', even though that one tightens up too.

You can 'mod' the Souber, by using an angle grinder to put a slit through the ends, and a bolt through to tighten up, but I'm seriously thinking about making a rod-based version for 'zero overhang' cylinders.

When I do have to use one, normally for a speedy lock change as opposed to lock out, I use the Souber. Always served me well and done the job.

Hi Simon when you say about making a rod based version, how does that grip the Euro?

Thanks Phil.

I bought the TL snapper.. Worked OK until one of the 4mm screws snapped, 3 times on the same bloody cylinder!

I spent about 30 mins drilling and tapping the Euro head to take a 10mm bolt, and it's definitly made things better.. I can really graunch the bolt up to grip the Euro's now!

OAH, any chance of a PM re the rod based snapper?

PM sent Paul.

I made my 'Rod-based Snapper' yesterday, and am going to give it a test shortly. It looks promising and should handle 'zero-overhang' cylinders as well as 'snap-safe'.

Hi Phil - when it comes to tools, there are those that say "this is the best" like a certain brand of yellow power tools, you'll the brand.  These are produced by the same company that produce B & D tools, yet their yellow versions are sold for £100s.  So when it comes to euro snappers I think you should buy the same as I have got.  I will bring it to the meeting on Saturday so you can have a look.  This is a lump of metal bro that does the job perfect.  I believe the one I own is a cheapie.  I've used it time and time again, there's no wear around the ends and it's a double euro snapper, one end is oval the other is euro.  I've used this on both types one movement upwrards, one movement downwards, one left and right.  Bang, job done!  Ok Phil, I hope this helps.  Can't wait to see you on Saturday.  By the way, I'll bring a surprise for everyone but Jay has first pick, I'm sure you'll agree.  All the best.  007 Dan, Westside Locks

Hi Phil - I never had time earlier on to look in Jay's tool shop.  He sells the same one that I have! I'll still bring mine on Saturday.

All the best.

Jays shop sells the one that that I  have used for 3 years. Most times that you use this tool you have the handles off so there is plenty to grab.I use the same method as above. Can see the point of open all hours "rod -based snapper" for snapsafe cylinders so hopefully see it at Sat meeting,

Nice one Kirk. That looks great. Let me know how you get on with it.

I've developed my 'Rod-Based Snapper' a bit more today and it works a treat on 'Zero-overhang'. It doesn't look pretty (at the moment), but it works. I mentioned it to a very good friend tonight, and they may be able to make up a 'nicer' version.  Will keep you posted.
