As Stu says, any night latch set of the correct size can be used.

Sorry i've been away for a few days, your answers have confussed me. Now i may be being stupid but all the nightlatches I have in stock have a "lip" on them, on a timber door you cut a recess to accomodate this lip, but if i did the same on a hollow allum door there would be nothing to screw into. The ones I am being asked to replace are surface mounted.

@Tony: Thats what you would need to use on an ali door, surface mounted without a lip.

Any nightlatch set without a lip, and the correct backset - 40mm or 60mm will suit. As you say Gibbons only now make the latch with a lip and the lipless version for metal doors has been discontinued.
