Hi late reply here.

Yellow pages do a free listing (google FREE LISTING YELL).  They dont tell you this, even if you ask directly and ask them very slowly.  The free listing with yell is revenue for them to sell and pass on, but also list with their own search engines.  Dont pay for Yellow pages, because I am sure you are only looking to work in your post code/telephone STD area.  Local villlage or town trade listings work very well!

I got web domain names for around 5 quid each for two years from 123reg containing the area that I live in (www.altrinchamlocksmith.co.uk) and transfered the name to a free web host site (000webhost.com) where you can build your web site, then register the URL(web site) with google etc. It comes up near the top of the page 1st -3rd locally and cost next to nothing. As Rick said free index is also great and their are loads of other free listing sites to add yourself.

Yellow pages no longer put free listings in the locksmith section, they put them in the business A_Z listings in the back of the book. The minimum cost ad in the locksmiths section is called a light face entry and costs around 40 pounds and is just name, address, tel,  they will try to sell you a bigger option!

I just got free listings in Thompson local online, also I got myself put on Google Places - free - where you can put descriptions - opening hours - photo's - video's etc and you get listed on a local map. All free. Somehow this gets pinched and you end up in other directories on the web too which is a bonus.

Be prepared for phone calls from Google (or a co. claiming to be Google) trying to sell you upmarket listings. Just say no as they are not Google. Put them on the block list and ignore their calls. Its an easy No. to recognise once you get their calls.
