I would imagine as a start touch base with your crime reduction officer and visit the station and speak with the duty Sgt, leaving some cards on the desk or general area.  They cant recoment anyone.

Hi fellas..

Like Dean says the Poilce cannot recomend people...When the force I work for requires boarding up/locksmiths etc we go via a call centre called 'BOING' who contact the required on call trade person..sama with undertakers and recovery vehicles..I'm in work later today so will ask around and find out how it all works. When we do properties as part of the housing association then they have their own in house people.

@ Dean no probs..

Thanks for putting the link up Kevin.

We have areas in the front office for trades persons to put cards adverts etc..may be worth also writing to the local force to get your name in the inforce magazine/etc as a bit of free advertising. We have an 'exchange and mart ' style paper inforce always happy to pop peoples details in that..plus as a trades person you know your clinet isn't going to be any' trouble' so to speak

Does anyone know if there is a similar company serving similar organisations in the Southwest?

Hi Tony, Boing are nationwide so you could just specify your local postcodes to them and then just pay to be forwarded job leads in your area.

Our local Police are not listed on Boing (W. Dorset) - is it best to get in touch with the local station itself or the headquarters ?

I got locked in the grounds of our local police headquarters one night years ago :)  saw a van go off the road - nothing serious - so as it was just down the road (before mobile phones were popular) I followed a car in through their gates.

How was I to know the gates closed automatically and you had an electronic pass to let you out again ..... they were rather confused as to how I got in and what I was doing there. Security was rather tight then as we had a working nuclear reactor facility next door to it.

@Kevin: I have put the Pdf  that you asked me to put on below. It's the main document as the rest, as you said, relates to West Midlands and anyone interested would need to get in touch with them to get doc's relevant to their area.

I have worked for boing in the past and found them a good company to work with, they gave me a fair amount of work. I dont know about any one else but the work I used to do for them in regards to police jobs was not what I considered locksmith work, but mainly consisted of repairs to doors and frames where the police had used their "BIG RED KEY" to get access to the premises, and they do make a mess. I also noticed that in my area the police were not the  fastest of payers in regards to bills.

Please do not regard this as been negative, the police work did bring some good jobs and was just starting to be a good part of my business when I had to stop, I am just trying to show that the are pit falls in working for the police same as any company.
