Well - slowly getting myself sorted out - got my key cutting machines installed at the weekend into the back of the van, Jakey Mk2 mortice and Delta semi auto cylinder. Power either by mains from customer ( caravan hookup type socket going to switches in the van ) or from a 3000 watt generator - also installed into the van.

Went round to the neighbours today for their first use and try and figure out how they work !

No cylinder keys to cut but did use up my entire beginners supply of safe keys doing duplicates for gun cabinets !

 - I think these may be a 'big' thing in this area.

And they all worked ok after some fettling (great word that) on a couple of them that had side wards which needed cutting into them.

On leaving he asked me about Banham keys - he wants me to see if I can cut one for him for a spare key for his mother.

Banhams website is not a lot of help - they just want you to send them the key and a lot of doc's proving ownership, and I have as yet had no luck deciphering the SKS key catalogue looking for the correct blank !

It is not a dimple key, has the Banhams registration number on it and I was wondering if anyone knows of a supplier of Banham key blanks ?

Is there a usual rate for key cutting ?  I reckoned on about £3 a key, but he said last time (TImpsons) for a mortice key it cost him £7+ per key.

Hi Dean, with interest how much did it cost for the machine and the install.

Good luck for the future.

Martin -

The key machines were £2068 inc vat, this included 4 key boards (1 x  Mortice and 3 x  Cylinder) plus key catalogues etc

I got a caravan mains hookup kit from a local caravan dealers for £65 which was

1 x blue socket to mount inside the van

connected to

1 x rcd consumer unit to give 2 supplies

connected to

2 x single normal household type sockets - which the machines plug into - or battery charger - lights whatever.

I can use a caravan hookup cable to take power from the generator into the caravan socket and onto the normal sockets.

Dean - cant get those links to open, but will head over to SKS website and work it out from there.
