Okay, we have heard them all....'Approved Locksmiths', 'Accredited Locksmiths','Preferred contractors',........the list goes on! We all know though that there is simply no such thing, approved, accredited by who?

These are terms simply used by organizations to draw on both the general public, and in some cases locksmith themselves, perhaps new to the trade. In most cases you have to join a particular organization to get on these 'lists'.

For some time now I have been thinking of doing a list of national locksmiths, but with a difference. The idea is to first be 'black & white' on the un-regulation of the locksmith trade and to then let people make a more informed choice. It could then also be used for locksmiths to be able to see what other locksmiths are within their area and to then be in a position to exchange work. Especially useful when jobs can't be covered that could otherwise be missed or for warrant work where it can be helpful to have some extra hands?

I will be contacting all the locksmiths we have trained over the years in due course, but if any member who is currently a locksmith would be interested just let me know. I will be putting a form in the members area later today.

For now I am doing this without a cost involved, but if we get enough on board, and as suggested in another forum post, we may perhaps expand it a bit and then charge a nominal annual fee to cover costs.....Non profit of course! What are your thoughts?

Hi Jay.. I think that is a very good idea. There is far too much mis-information regarding phony accreditation or approved locksmith lists. Please count me in.

i have been crb checked as i trained recruits in the army and they are classed as vonurable adults. i am also security cleared but this meens nothing as i do have a criminal record for stuff when i was a teenager and that is why i joined he army to get away from trouble. but the point i am trying to make is that there is no pass or fail for a crb check it just means you get a list of your crimes or a clear list but the customer does not see this, scarey... but door staff are vetted and checked by the sia and some of them have records because of the rehabilitation of offenders act.. where do you draw the line because i would be gutted if i could not join due to stuff i done over 11 years ago...

Getting lots of completed forms through now.

The list will not go live until the layout I need is in place and the template format is correct. For anyone who knows, web site CSS and HTML is a bloody nightmare!

I am also going to make it a dedicated site so it's not linked to this one. I will bear the cost of this for now, hosting cost's, domain etc.

What I need is some ideas for names? It should be not too long and straight to the point. Any ideas??
